The Linlithgow Academy Parent Council

Supporting the Parent Forum for the benefit of everyone at Linlithgow Academy

The Scottish Schools (Parent Involvement) Act 2006 makes provision for the involvement of parents in their children's education and in school education generally. The Act also outlines the establishment of a Parent Council made up of parents representing the views of the Parent Forum as a whole. 

Who are the Parent Forum? All parents, carers or guardians who have a child at Linlithgow Academy are members of the Parent Forum. Members of the Parent Forum are welcome to attend all Parent Council meetings.

What is the Parent Council? The Parent Council is a group of parents who represent the views of the Parent Forum.  The structure and composition of the Linlithgow Academy Parent Council is detailed in the Linlithgow Academy Parent Council Icon for pdf constitution [698.02KB].

What are the aims of the Parent Council? The Linlithgow Academy Parent Council plays an active role in supporting parental involvement in the work and the life of Linlithgow Academy. Key aims for Linlithgow Academy Parent Council are: 

a) to promote close co-operation and communication between parents and school staff 

b) to promote equality, diversity, inclusion and fairness

c) to study and discuss matters of mutual interest relating to the education and welfare of pupils

d) to engage in activities which support and advance the education and welfare of pupils attending the school

Who attends the meetings? The meetings are a mixture of Parent Council members, co-opted members and invited attendees such as the Head Teacher, Pupil Council representatives and staff representatives. All members of the Parent Forum are welcome to attend.

DATE OF NEXT MEETING: Tuesday 27 October 2020

Meetings for the 2020/21 School Year are provisionally* scheduled as follows:

  • Term 1 - Tuesday 27 October
  • Term 1 - Monday 7 December
  • Term 2 - Thursday 28 January
  • Term 2 - Thursday 11 March
  • Term 3 - Wednesday 5 May
  • Term 3 - Tuesday 8 June

At 7pm in the Conference Room. During Covid-19 restrictions other arrangements will be implemented as required. All members of the Parent Forum are very welcome.

*2020/21 meeting dates are currently provisional due to Covid-19 restrictions. Updates will be posted on this page.
